Onsite Door Supervisor Course
Onsite Door Supervisor Course for Your Security Team
Bring recognised door supervisor training to your workplace, reduce unnecessary staff travel and prepare your team for the qualification required to apply for an SIA Door Supervisor Licence.
Train Door Supervisors Without Sending Your Team Off-Site
Need several employees trained at once? Sending everyone to a public training centre can mean travel costs, rota gaps and a lot of organising.
K4 Training’s on-site door supervisor course brings the training to your organisation. Staff learn together at your premises, provided the venue meets the required training and assessment standards. It suits security companies, event operators, hospitality businesses and employers building an in-house security team.
Who Is This Course For?
The course is for people preparing to work in door supervision for the first time, including new security staff, career changers and employees moving into roles at licensed venues, events, retail sites and other public-facing locations. For employers, the appeal is straightforward. You can train a group in one place rather than booking staff onto separate public dates.
Learners must meet the current SIA first aid requirement before licence-linked training begins. The first aid qualification must be valid for at least another 12 months.
What Will Your Staff Learn?
The SIA door supervisor course covers four main areas:
- Working in the Private Security Industry – legislation, emergency procedures, communication, record keeping, terror threat awareness and protecting vulnerable people.
- Working as a Door Supervisor – crime awareness, drugs, evidence preservation, licensing law, queue management, venue capacity and security equipment.
- Conflict Management – recognising risk, de-escalation and handling difficult situations calmly.
- Physical Intervention – safe, proportionate intervention, personal safety, holding and escorting skills.
K4’s course covers these four core units, with practical work alongside classroom learning. Learners complete written assessments as well as practical assessments. So it isn’t just theory. They need to show they can use what they’ve learned.
How Long Does the Course Take?
K4’s full SIA door supervisor training, including first aid, is normally delivered over 6 days. Exact on-site arrangements depend on your group size, venue, trainer availability and the required learning and assessment time.
That gives employers some room to plan around operations without cutting corners on the qualification.
What Does the Course Lead To?
Successful learners gain the licence-linked qualification needed to apply for an SIA Door Supervisor Licence. Current SIA guidance lists the Level 2 Award for Working as a Door Supervisor in the Private Security Industry among the accepted qualifications.
The licence itself is issued separately by the Security Industry Authority, so passing the SIA DS course doesn’t automatically guarantee a licence. Applicants still need to meet the SIA’s licensing requirements.
The practical benefit for employers? A team trained to the same standard, with a shared understanding of responsibilities, conflict management and safe intervention.

FAQs
Can a door supervisor course be delivered at our workplace?
Yes, subject to the training venue meeting the required standards for teaching, assessment and practical activities. K4 can discuss your premises and group requirements before the course is arranged.
How long is the onsite door supervisor course?
K4’s full Door Supervisor Course, including first aid, normally runs over six days. Onsite scheduling will also need to meet the required training and assessment hours.
Do staff need first aid before starting SIA door supervisor training?
Yes. Current SIA rules require learners to hold an accepted first aid qualification before starting licence-linked door supervisor training, and it must have at least 12 months left before expiry.
Does passing the course give my employee an SIA licence?
No. Passing gives the learner the relevant licence-linked qualification, which is needed when applying for an SIA Door Supervisor Licence. The licence application is a separate process handled by the SIA.
Is this course suitable for people with no security experience?
Yes. It’s suitable for new entrants, career changers and employees moving into door supervision for the first time. Previous security experience isn’t the reason for taking the course; the training is there to build the required knowledge and practical skills.
Is the full course suitable for someone renewing an SIA Door Supervisor Licence?
Usually, existing door supervisors renewing their licence need the current Door Supervisor Refresher qualification rather than repeating the full course. Refresher training has been mandatory for door supervisor licence renewals since 1 April 2025.
